Tennis Great Martina Navratilova’s ‘Basic Hike’ Turns in to Basic Rescue on Kilimanjaro

Tennis great Martina Navratilova was forced to abandon her Mt. Kilimanjaro climb today after aquiring a bad case of HAPE (high-altitude pulmonary edema).  The former tennis star had to be brought off of Africa’s highest peak and is currently in the Nairobi hospital recuperating from a build up of fluid around her lungs due to the high altitude of Mt. Kilimanjaro.  Her team was scheduled to top out tomorrow and they will continue on their journey, while she spends the next 2-3 days trying to get better.

It’s just a basic hike except you get to be pretty high and there’s not much air up there, but it doesn’t require much mountain climbing experience.

I am betting that she will be regretting these words very, very shortly..

Martina Navratilova is said to be doing well and recuperating at a good rate in the Nairobi Hospital.  We wish her the best on her recovery!

It's very calm over here, why not leave a comment?

It’s Official: Lonnie Dupre’s Winter Denali Expedition Over

Extreme Adventure News has been following Lonnie Dupre's Winter Denali Expedition over the course of the past few weeks.  Yesterday I posted that it looked like Lonnie's expedition may be coming to an end.  Bad weather and a lengthy 6 night stay at over 17,000 feet have seemed to be enough for the adventurer.
